FAQs

Who is a Good Candidate for Plastic Surgery?

Good candidates for plastic surgery procedures understand that the surgery will result in some scarring and will require follow-up care. Additionally, good candidates have realistic expectations for what a plastic surgery procedure can achieve for their appearance.

For all elective surgeries, we recommend:

  • Patients must be aware of the known negative effects of any surgery, including pain, cost, recovery time and scarring, and the known risks of surgery.
  • Patients should lead a healthy lifestyle, and be healthy both medically and emotionally. Any surgery is a trauma to the body, so it is important to be in good health before the procedure.
  • Patients should be at a point in their lives where inconveniences to job responsibilities and family obligations are minimized.
  • It is imperative that cosmetic surgery patients be non-smokers, as nicotine delays the healing process.

Additionally, for some procedures, we recommend:

  • Patients should be at or near their ideal body weight
  • Patients should have already had any children they plan on having.

How Do I Take Care of Myself Before and After Surgery?

We have a library of information for pre-care and post-care instructions. Please take a look, and let us know if you have any further questions.

How Many Men Have Plastic Surgery Procedures?

More and more men are turning to plastic surgery to correct the signs of aging, improve their appearance, and feel better about themselves. Men had over 9 percent of cosmetic procedures in 2010. The number of procedures performed on men, both surgical and nonsurgical, was more than 1.1 million during the same year. The most common surgical procedure for men is liposuction, and the most common non-surgical procedure for men is Botox.

How Often Do You Need to Repeat Botox or Restylane Injections?

The effects of Botox typically last three to four months. You will notice the Botox beginning to wear off by seeing increased muscle action and some reformation of the wrinkles. Often, Botox appears to become longer-lasting with repeated use. You can repeat a Botox treatment as needed.

Restylane is similar. Restylane injections last for about six months, and can also be repeated as needed.

What Is the Recovery Time for Plastic Surgery Procedures?

“How long is the recovery time for my plastic surgery procedure?” is the most common question we get from our patients. Naturally, you want to know when you’ll be able to get back to work and social activities!

While everyone is different, and some people’s bodies just bounce back from surgery more quickly, there are some general guidelines that can help you plan your plastic surgery. We recommend setting aside at least a week of recovery time for breast procedures, arm lifts, and liposuction. Procedures that affect the core of your body (tummy tucks, mommy makeovers, body lifts) can take up to a month in recovery time, while face procedures typically require 1 – 2 weeks of recovery.
